Chip Carving Workshop - Sunday, March 11, 2018

60.00

Chip carving is a decorative art form in which "chips" of wood are removed from a flat wooden surface to create faceted geometric patterns, stylized images and ornamentation. Chip carving has been practiced for centuries by cultures around the world as a way to decorate functional objects, architectural elements and as an art form in its own right.

In this all-day workshop you'll learn the fundamentals of chip carving including how to properly use and maintain chip carving tools, safety, design and layout principles specific to chip carving, understanding wood as a carving medium and methods for finishing completed carvings.

Tuition includes :

  • All materials and the use of all the necessary tools
  • One-on-one guided practice and instruction
  • Printed resource material to support everything we cover in the workshop
  • Suggestions and resources to help you get started carving on your own

During the workshop you'll develop proper technique by completing a "practice board" before moving onto a small decorative carving that you can take home with you at the end of the day.
