Weekend Chip Carving Workshop - Appalachian Center for Craft, Smithfield TN

In this weekend chip carving workshop students will receive comprehensive instruction in the fundamentals of chip carving, a decorative technique in which faceted “chips” are removed from a wooden surface to produce geometric patterns, stylized images, lettering and ornamentation. Through demonstrations, guided practice, skill-building exercises, and the completion of a decorative wall hanging, students will leave class with all the knowledge, experience and confidence to pursue chip carving on their own.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is part of Tennessee Tech college and is located in Smithfield, TN.

Two-Day Chip Carving Workshop - Townsend Atelier, Chattanooga TN

I’m very happy to be returning to Townsend Atelier, a wonderful privately owned and operated art center in Chattanooga, TN. The Townsends’ hospitality is the effortless kind that really makes an impression on you and they host an impressive array of fine arts classes and events. I’m looking forward to this class and being back in Chattanooga for a few days.

In this two-day class students will receive comprehensive instruction in the fundamentals of chip carving, a decorative technique in which faceted “chips” are removed from a wooden surface to produce geometric patterns, stylized images, lettering and ornamentation. Two-day Chip Carving Workshop - Lost Art Press, Covington KY

I love teaching at Lost Art Press. Covington is a hidden gem (shh, don’t tell anyone about it) and Christopher Schwarz and everyone at LAP are doing wonderful things for the world of woodworking education and publishing. This will be my third time teaching there in two years and it’s always and enjoying and inspiring time for myself and for students.

In this two-day class students will receive comprehensive instruction in the fundamentals of chip carving, a decorative technique in which faceted “chips” are removed from a wooden surface to produce geometric patterns, stylized images, lettering and ornamentation. Fort Houston is a truly impressive maker space, shared shop and community of craftspeople in Nashville, TN. I’m looking forward to being back there for a one-day chip carving class.
