UPCOMING 1 & 2 DAY CHIP CARVING WORKSHOPS:
Fort Houston, Nashville TN, November 10
My carving workshops are designed to provide students with all the knowledge and experience they need to become excellent chip carvers and to pursue the craft independently. Students receive a thorough education in the fundamentals of chip carving through demonstrations, one-on-one guided completion of a practice board, skill-building exercises and completion of small decorative carvings. Two-day workshops allow students to spend additional time on sharpening skills, skill-building exercises, extended techniques and one-on-one time with the instructor.
In both one- and two-day workshops you will learn safe & effective knife technique, how to keep your tools sharp and how to navigate woodgrain — all the knowledge and skills you need to produce beautiful carvings. We'll talk about design considerations specific to chip carving, wood & tool selection, and the other resources you'll need to continue to carving on your own. We'll also take a look at traditional and contemporary examples of chip carving from around the world.
Experienced woodworkers are welcome, however no woodworking or carving experience is necessary for any of my carving workshops — chip carving is an accessible point of entry for beginning woodworkers or anyone curious about working in wood, as well as experienced craftspeople interested in adding chip carving to their skill set.
